So, Is Warhammer 40k: Space Marine 2 Worth Playing?
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is a game where you play as a massive, armored super-soldier called a Space Marine. The gameplay is all about mowing down swarms of alien enemies with brutal efficiency, blending gunplay and melee combat. It’s fast-paced, violent, and makes you feel like a walking tank. Think Gears of War, but in the grimdark Warhammer 40k universe.
What’s the Story?
You step into the role of Captain Titus, a veteran Space Marine tasked with defending human worlds from invasion. This time, the threat comes from the Tyranids, an alien swarm that devours entire planets like locusts from space.
But it’s not just about killing aliens. The Imperium of Man, humanity’s empire, is so paranoid and harsh that even Titus himself is under suspicion. So while he’s saving humanity on the front lines, he’s also fighting mistrust from the very people he serves. At its core, it’s a story of endless war, political tension, and the no-win nature of the Warhammer 40k universe.
Why I Picked It Up
I first noticed Space Marine 2 because so many streamers and YouTubers were playing it at launch. It looked cool, but the steep price tag stopped me from jumping in right away. It wasn’t until I played and finished Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader that I got curious enough to try it. Even then, I waited for a deal or sale before buying.
Getting Into the Game
Gameplay is easy to pick up. A tutorial walks you through how to do all the Space Marine things, shooting, slashing, stomping, and surviving. The story is straightforward too: stop an alien menace, uncover deeper threats along the way, repeat. Every mission makes you feel like a force of nature, especially since the enemies look formidable enough to make your victories feel earned.
If you’re deep into Warhammer lore, you’ll catch details that make the experience more immersive. But as someone who’s not well-versed in decades of 40k stories, I still found it easy to dive in and enjoy.
What Stood Out Most
For me, it wasn’t the story, it was the vibe. The gothic aesthetic, the grotesque but fascinating design of the Tyranids, the way your Space Marine charges forward while proclaiming devotion to the Emperor. All of it creates a world that feels both alien and strangely familiar.
As my favorite history-and-literature YouTube duo put it: sometimes you don’t need to care about the lore, you just enjoy the vibe.
Any Downsides?
In single-player, I didn’t run into much I didn’t like. It’s fun, straightforward, and polished. That said, some players who tried the multiplayer mode mentioned it feels repetitive across different levels. Since I haven’t played that mode myself, I can’t speak to it, but it’s worth keeping in mind if multiplayer matters to you.
Is It Sulit?
Here’s where I have to be real: with a ₱1,995 price tag, I’d only recommend buying at full price if you’re already a Warhammer fan or really want to get into the universe. The game is fun and the visuals are fantastic, but for newcomers on a budget, there are cheaper games with similar gameplay. For example, Gears of War is included in an Xbox Game Pass PC subscription.
So is it sulit? Eventually, yes but unless you’re sold on the Warhammer aesthetic, I’d suggest waiting for a sale.
If you want to see how the game actually plays out, I’ve recorded my own playthrough. Feel free to check it out, it might give you a better sense of whether Warhammer 40k: Space Marine 2 is your kind of game.
