Most of my days are spent working overtime to provide for my family. By the time I log off, I’m exhausted. Yet almost every night, I reach for a controller or open up Steam and think about how I want to spend the little free time I have. That small ritual keeps me going. Games are my way to recharge, to reconnect with myself, and sometimes even with the people I care about. That’s why I decided to put my thoughts into this Filipino gamer blog.
Why Games Matter to Me
For me, games are more than just a distraction, they’re also part of how I live and learn. Video games, tabletop role-playing games, and even light card games have all shaped how I see the world.
When I played God of War (2018 and Ragnarok), I wasn’t only button-mashing through combat. I was pulled into a story about fathers, sons, and the weight of choices. I absolutely love how it taught me that we can break “fate” and that it can only take hold of us if we allow it.
In Ghost of Tsushima, I found myself in awe of Jin Sakai, a protagonist who forges his own brand of honor even when it clashes with the ideals of his uncle and father figure. It’s a reminder that living by your own principles sometimes means standing apart from those you love.
Then there are games like Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine which I dove into it without knowing decades of lore or backstory, but I adored by sheer vibe alone. It showed me that sometimes you don’t need the whole encyclopedia to enjoy a world, just the raw experience can be enough.
In Dungeons & Dragons, I’m usually the Dungeon Master. I find enjoyment in letting players live out their fantasy of being heroes or pulling off epic maneuvers. The fact that I roll low most of the time just adds to the chaos, and I love putting them in situations where their bravery shines through.
I also get to step into the shoes of different characters. There’s Rasputin, a chaotic wizard who let me explore sides of myself that don’t usually surface in daily life. Then there’s Yoso, a fey-influenced rogue who goes by the alias Mr. Yoso, a play on the Tagalog word misteryoso (mysterious).
And when I get to spend time with family or friends, a round of Splendor or a few matches of Gwent are enough to spark laughter and soften the weight of a long week.
These moments remind me that games can teach, entertain, and bring people closer together all at once.
Why I Write About It
I’m not trying to be IGN or a big critic in an already crowded landscape. My goal is to share stories and reflections that feel closer to home. A lot of reviews online assume the reader has endless time or money. Many of us don’t. We ask the “sulit” question: is this worth it for someone balancing work, family, and a tight schedule?
That’s the kind of lens I believe I can bring: honest, beginner-friendly, and shaped by the Pinoy experience.
What You Can Expect Here
On this blog, I’ll be writing about different corners of gaming:
- Video game reviews that ask if a title is worth your limited time.
- Reflections that connect games to culture, work, and everyday Filipino life.
- RPG recaps and tips to show how campaigns unfold and how anyone can role-play with confidence.
- Board and card game reviews that highlight family-friendly fun and affordable game nights.
In short, the same promises I laid out on the homepage: honest takes, simple language, and a perspective grounded in real life. Essentially, anything you can expect from a Filipino gamer blog.
Let’s Just Play Games
I don’t claim to be an expert. I write because I love games and because I want to share that love in a way that makes sense for people like us. If you’re also figuring out where games fit in your busy life, I hope you stick around. Let’s geek out together.
